GAMMALUX DUO front projection screen

GAMMALUX DUO is a projection film that can be used on both sides. It is 98 % light-tight and double-sided. This high-end front projection screen consists of two films laminated together with a grey backing. Ideally suited for all types of front projection, also suitable for soft-edge projections with excellent soft-edge blending properties. It is often used in stretch frames, truss frames or as a large-area, darkening projection film, also temporarily in front of window fronts, for example. The film has good elasticity behaviour. The grey reverse side is used for projections where a higher black level is required (e.g. for text presentations). White side: High-end front projection film suitable for cinema and home cinema. Grey side: Ideal for presentations of data and fonts. For lectures with a high proportion of scattered light. Very good contrast. Also ideal for dome and cupola projections.

GAMMALUX DUO MICRO front projection screen 

The GAMMALUX DUO MICRO front projection screen, which can be used on both sides, has the same technical properties and areas of application as the GAMMALUX DUO, but is also perforated to allow sound to pass through and is therefore not light-tight. Like the GAMMALUX DUO, it is often used in stenter and truss frames. It is also very suitable for cinema and home cinema applications with loudspeakers behind the projection screen. With a perforation of 300,000 holes per square metre, a hole diameter of 0.5 mm and an open area of approx. 6 %, the micro-perforated GAMMALUX DUO MICRO projection screen has a closed effect even at short distances between the viewer and the screen, despite the micro-perforation. White side: High-end front projection screen suitable for cinema and home cinema. Grey side: Ideal for presentations of data and fonts. For lecture events with a high proportion of scattered light. Very good contrast.

SCENE front projection screen

The SCENE film is a very robust front projection film with a white projection side and a black reverse side. SCENE is 100% light-tight and therefore ideal for use in truss frames, stretched frames or in theatre hoists. The film is suitable for softedge with good luminance distribution. Due to its relatively high dimensional stability, SCENE is also used in our MEGASCREENS. The SCENE film can also be used as an effect film by projecting onto the black reverse side.

SCENE PERFORATED front projection screen

The SCENE PERFORATED projection screen has the same technical properties and areas of application as the SCENE, but is also perforated to allow sound to pass through and is therefore not light-tight. With a perforation of 57,000 holes per square metre, a hole diameter of 1.25 mm and an open area of approx. 7%, the perforated projection screen SCENE PERFORATED has a closed effect even at a distance of just a few metres. For shorter viewing distances, we recommend the use of a micro-perforated projection screen.

OPERA WHITE 2.2 front projection screen

OPERA WHITE 2.2 is the classic Gerriets projection screen, which is a non-lightproof, pure white front projection screen with a luminance factor of ß = 0.98. It is a robust all-round film that is suitable for both full-screen and soft-edge projection and is therefore popular for use in theatres and cinemas.

OPERA WHITE 2.2 PERFORATED front projection screen

The OPERA WHITE 2.2 PERFORATED front projection screen is similar to the OPERA WHITE 2.2, but with additional perforations to allow sound to pass through. It is often used in cinemas or home cinemas when speakers are positioned behind the projection surface and the viewing distance is large enough for the holes to be unrecognisable. With a perforation of 57,000 holes per square metre, a hole diameter of 1.25 mm and an open area of approx. 7%, the perforated film has a closed effect even at a distance of a few metres. We recommend the use of a micro-perforated film for shorter viewing distances.

OPERA WHITE 2.2 MICRO front projection screen

The OPERA WHITE 2.2 MICRO film is comparable to the OPERA WHITE 2.2 projection film, but with additional micro-perforations for sound transmission. It is used in the cinema or home cinema sector when loudspeakers are positioned behind the projection screen and the viewing distance is not great enough to use the slightly cheaper OPERA WHITE 2.2 MICRO. With a perforation of 300,000 holes per square metre, a respective hole diameter of 0.50 mm and an open area of approx. 6%, the micro-perforated film has a closed effect even at a few metres.

OPERA HIGH GAIN front projection screen

The front of the OPERA HIGH GAIN is mother-of-pearl coloured, 99 % light-tight and can be used for a range of 3D projection types. The mother-of-pearl side has the best known reflection value on the market with a surprisingly good luminance distribution. SILVERBLACK front projection film The front side of SILVERBLACK is silver-coloured, 100 % light-tight and well suited for 3D or effect projections. the silver-coloured side has a good luminance distribution. Thanks to its very good contrast ratio, SILVERBLACK is also ideal for cinema and home cinema applications.

OPERA CREAMY WHITE 2.2 front and rear projection screen

OPERA CREAMY WHITE 2.2 combines excellent luminance distribution with a robust design and good durability. As an all-round film, OPERA CREAMY WHITE 2.2 is also suitable as an illuminated stage backdrop and is also very well suited for soft-edge projections.

OPERA GREY BLUE 2.2 front and rear projection screen

The OPERA GREY BLUE 2.2 projection screen can be used for front and rear projection. The projection properties are similar to those of OPERA CREAMY WHITE 2.2. OPERA GREY BLUE 2.2 is the slightly cooler version of the classic film and forgoes some of the luminosity in favour of a slightly more colour-true image for front projection. However, the viewing angle remains excellent. For rear projection, the film has a very similar luminance factor (ß = 0.26) to OPERA CREAMY WHITE 2.2 and is also very suitable for soft-edge projections.

SHOW 2.2 front and rear projection screen

The black SHOW 2.2 projection screen film is extremely insensitive to scattered and ambient light and is particularly suitable for high-contrast effect projections. The SHOW film produces a brilliant image and therefore creates a strong depth effect. Due to its loss of light at extreme angles, it is particularly suitable for stage backdrops and narrow viewing angles. SHOW is also used as an effect film for laser projections and for the projection of subtitling systems. It is not well suited for softedge projections.

STUDIO 2.2 front and rear projection screen

The STUDIO 2.2 is mainly used in the theatre and opera sector. It is insensitive to scattered light and ambient light while providing good light distribution. Thanks to its high diffusion performance, STUDIO 2.2 is well suited for soft-edge projections or as an illuminated background or background film for lighting effects.

EVEN front and rear projection screen

EVEN is the brightest and most reliable projection screen for high-quality softedge projections in the combination of front and rear projection. It was specially developed for softedge applications. Thanks to its optical properties, EVEN is also a very good projection screen for full-size projections. Thanks to the significantly higher luminance factor for rear projection compared to the OPERA MILK MATT 2.2 projection screen, the number of projectors for softedge projections can be significantly reduced while maintaining better softedge quality. The luminance values in front and rear projection are almost identical with EVEN.

OPTIBLACK 2.2 front and rear projection screen

OPTIBLACK 2.2 is a front and rear projection screen with maximum homogeneity and ideal luminance distribution. Specially developed and well suited for use with soft edge projection in rear projection, no hotspot and very good viewing angle. Also perfect for 4K projections. Due to the very dark, almost black colour, OPTIBLACK 2.2 is almost invisible without a projection image and is insensitive to scattered and ambient light. For front projections, the OPTIBLACK 2.2 is also suitable for soft-edge projections in 4K quality with a wide viewing angle.

Our rear projection screens

PANORAMA rear projection screen

With a width of 3.05 metres, PANORAMA is ideal for seamless 4:3 and 16:9 formats. It is a very translucent, high-contrast rear projection film and is less sensitive to scattered and ambient light. PANORAMA is best used for full-size projections. For soft-edge projections, short distances between the projector and projection screen should be avoided.

OPTITRANS rear projection screen

The OPTITRANS colour-neutral projection screen has an excellent light output in a fairly wide core range of the viewing angle. The image quality is excellent, with very good contrast and a very clear appearance. One of the best projection screens for full screen projections on the market!

OPTILUX rear projection screen

The OPTILUX rear projection screen is the slightly cheaper version of OPTITRANS but with similar properties. OPTILUX is slightly darker than OPTITRANS and therefore reacts less to scattered and ambient light, while at the same time having very good light properties in the core area of the viewing angle. The contrast is good and the brightness of the OPTILUX projection is slightly lower than that of the OPTITRANS.

TRANSMISSION rear projection screen

TRANSMISSION was specially developed for LED backlighting. The smallest distances of approx. 10-15 cm to the LED wall are possible. Due to the extremely good diffusion performance, individual LED pixels are almost unrecognisable. This is why TRANSMISSION is used in many new studio buildings worldwide. Depending on the LED technology used, it is also suitable for chroma key punching or as a green or blue box. It can also be used as a projection screen for rear projections, but is very sensitive due to its very high brightness combined with high diffusion performance, especially in the transition areas for soft-edge projections.

Our special projection screens

ARENA 86 special projection screen

This special film is a fabric-reinforced projection film that is suitable for outdoor use. Thanks to the very fine mesh, the mesh fabric is also relatively insensitive to the so-called "moiré effect". The surface of the ARENA 86 offers a very good viewing angle. Thanks to its good permeability, the film is also suitable for use as a mesh in front of loudspeakers. ARENA 86 is also very popular for digital printing and can be used for open-air stages, for example.

FROST special projection screen

PVC diffusion film with frost effect, which is often used in front of LED walls. The frost effect causes the film to reflect the lighter aspects of the projected media, while the darker aspects tend to remain in the background. This creates a beautiful three-dimensional effect. The frost film is a pure diffusion and effect film and therefore not a real projection film.

The big screen – redefining horizons

The areas of application for projection films and projection screens are as diverse as the content itself. Impressive XXL large screens as cyclorama or panorama projections fascinate viewers sitting in the centre in a 180 or 360° projection. But even in smaller dimensions, the projection screen redefines the illusion. Often positioned at the rear of the stage area or studio, the concave circular horizon enriches a wide variety of target groups and organisers at events and presentations, depending on the projection screen selected. Whether large projection screens - invisibly applied to huge window panes and glass fronts -, stage backdrops, live events or large three-dimensional projections and holograms: there are no limits to the imagination and creativity of the designing artists depending on the material properties of the projection screens. The demand for projection screens and projection textiles has been increasing continuously for years due to the creative, innovative and diverse range of applications.

Projection screens are installed in the professional projection and presentation sector, particularly in the following areas:

Stage and theatre

The world's opera houses are the birthplace of Gerriets OPERA projection films. More than 50 years ago, Gerriets was the first company in the world to produce PVC projection films as circular horizons and projection films for stages all over the world. This is why the name OPERA film has long been synonymous with projection screens and backlighting films. Frequently used here are front and rear projection films such as the milky matt or light blue OPERA film or, as a technical advancement, the EVEN projection film, for example. For optimum sound transmission, perforated films can also be used, such as the front projection films OPERA WHITE 2.2 PERFORATED and GAMMALUX DUO MICRO. The front and rear projection screen SHOW 2.2 can be ideally integrated into the stage design as an effect screen, while the rear projection screen OPTIBLACK 2.2 is the ideal soft-edge projection screen with perfect luminance distribution for theatre and other performances. Both are perfect for creating a dark background or backdrop.

TV studios 

Semi-transparent projection screens are used in TV studios as a background horizon that allows uniform illumination with white or coloured light from the front and rear. For larger distances between the LED source and the projection screen, a rear projection screen such as the OPTITRANS from OPTILUX by Gerriets is particularly suitable, with a high luminance factor and good luminance distribution that allows sufficient light to pass through. If a smaller distance of approx. 20 cm or less is specified between the LED screen and the projection screen - which is often the case in cramped studio conditions and correspondingly little space between the light source and the projection screen for cost reasons - the TRANSMISSION rear projection screen with its high luminance factor and extremely even light distribution proves to be the better solution. It prevents the individual pixels from becoming visible on the projection screen due to the proximity of the LED source, which in turn would prevent uniform illumination.

Virtual studios

In virtual studios, there are special requirements for the projection surface: even with low lux values, uniform illumination of the actors should be achieved so that both the foreground and, if necessary, the protagonists can be individually illuminated. This is the only way to ensure that fading, shadows or colour reflection from the background onto the actors can be minimised. Further studies have shown that with a backlit projection screen, for example the TRANSMISSION or OPTILUX, there is often actually less green spill. In addition, the scene can be illuminated much more easily from the front and even in the 4K or 8K range, the finely processed seams from Gerriets do not cause any impairment of the image.

Special stage effects and laser shows

For both indoor and outdoor laser shows, large and small laser shows require a medium that reflects and "catches" the end of the laser beam. In addition to water and fog screens, projection textiles are often used for this purpose. A laser textile specially developed by Gerriets is the laser gauze, which is invisible in the dark, highly transparent and specially designed for laser shows to reflect the laser beam during laser shows. Other textiles are also used for laser shows. For example, heirloom grommets or tapestry grommets are textiles that are traditionally used in opera and theatre for lighting or projections. In this way, special effects can be achieved in laser shows that could not be shown without these materials.

Large halls

For events in halls, the interfering light factor must be given special consideration. Even if normal hall lighting of approx. 200 lux would allow the use of any commercially available projection screen, the type of interfering light is different to that in conference rooms, for example, and influences the quality of the projection. After all, it can be assumed that the artists are in the spotlight - i.e. numerous LED spotlights and moving lights on a front truss cast direct or indirect light onto the projection surface for the show lighting. In addition, there is the entire backlight of the mid and back truss and their indirect light, which acts as interference light on the projection surface. An "all-round screen" would reflect the incident light on the front projection side comparatively strongly. Accordingly, with front and rear projection there is a risk that the interfering light falling on the front side will have a negative effect on the quality of the projection. This can be counteracted by selecting a projection screen with moderate transmission and reflection behaviour. A relatively high luminance factor and good luminance distribution of the projection screen are ideal here; they prevent the formation of a hotspot. SCENE, which is popular due to its robustness, is often used for front projection. For rear projection, dark rear projection screens such as the OPTITRANS rear projection screen or OPTIBLACK 2.2 are preferably used. This is also ideal for full-screen, soft-edge or hard-edge projections. A particular advantage of this film is that it minimises the reflection of the interfering light falling onto the projection screen from the front, which is usually caused by spotlights and show effects. The projectors should be selected with sufficient brightness.

Open-Air events

Open-air events pose very different challenges for projections: 

• loss of contrast from daylight 

• wind loads 

• humidity and temperature fluctuations 

• changing light conditions at dusk and later darkness

Stage designers must take these factors into account when selecting screens. Depending on the circumstances, it is possible to work with front or rear projections. In both cases, it is advisable to install the projection screens at the rear of the stage, which is less affected by direct sunlight due to the stage roof. The SCENE front projection screen or the OPTILUX rear projection screen or the EVEN front and rear projection screen are particularly suitable for this purpose. The ARENA 86 front projection screen has also proved to be particularly suitable for outdoor use. Mounted at the rear of an open-air stage, such a light-tight front projection screen can minimise the otherwise negative effect of light (daylight) on the projection that would otherwise be visible from behind. Very good results can be achieved with a projection screen, especially for public viewing. There are suitable systems for this, such as the inflatable projection system from Airscreen, in which the SCENE front projection screen is used as a front projection screen.

Trade fairs and promotional appearances 

The presentation requirements vary greatly: from simple panelling of exhibition walls to effective backlighting. Rear or front projection of moving animations and product advertising films, which are projected onto a large screen or smaller projection surfaces integrated into the exhibition stand in front or rear projection from a wide variety of opera films. There is hardly any other means that is so suitable for attracting the attention of interested parties. However, the choice of projection film for exhibition stand construction does not always have to do with optical and technical properties alone. The seamless height and width of horizon films is often a selection criterion, which the PANORAMA rear projection film, for example, fulfils with its 3.05 m height and almost infinite width. OPERA PRINT is recommended as a printed projection film for effective backlighting and is often used as a large-scale advertising and design element in exhibition stand construction. Otherwise, all the projection surfaces described here can actually be used in exhibition stand construction.

Schools or universities, companies, seminar and conference rooms 

In conference rooms or lecture theatres, there is normally constant lighting of around 200 lux, which makes it possible to use a front projection screen such as the GAMMALUX DUO from Gerriets. It minimises the reflection of interfering light and thus significantly improves the black level, which is useful for text-heavy presentations. Furthermore, roller screens with a white, fabric-reinforced projection surface are often used in rooms that can be darkened. 

Private households and home cinema 

Today, large screens have long been found in private households, either on the living room wall or in a specially installed home cinema. So why use a television when you can have a real home cinema instead? The beamer film and the corresponding projector make it possible without any problems and at a very affordable price. The OPERA WHITE 2.2 front projection screen or the SILVERBLACK front projection screen, for example, offer a perfect combination of price and performance for the home cinema sector. OPERA HIGH GAIN is also frequently used for weaker projectors.
