Moulin Rouge! The Musical - Cologne, Germany

Customer

Studio Hamburg Design Works GmbH

Location

Cologne, Germany

and Gerriets is back again!

Following the huge success of the musical "Moulin Rouge" in London's West End, the love story that revolves around the legendary Parisian nightclub at the end of the 19th century can now also be seen in Cologne at the Musical Dome at the main railway station. The venue has been transformed into a nightclub, a theater and a dance hall at great expense and has been showing the production "En suite" in Cologne since November 6, 2022.

The transformation of the Musical Dome took several months and included the use of over 2,000 square meters of red velour for decorative curtains, soffits and the finest ceiling sails from Gerriets.

Gerriets Great Britain (GGB), the English branch of Gerriets GmbH in Umkirch, which had already supplied the complete furnishings for the production in the West End of London, was commissioned by Studio Hamburg to manufacture and supply the textiles and velour.

"We used a lot of material in the auditorium and on the stage.

I think apart from "Harry Potter" in Hamburg, where Gerriets was also one of our main suppliers, we have never done such an elaborate conversion for a musical in the auditorium. In fact, I don't know of any comparable project in Germany or Europe.

This is certainly also due to the fact that the Musical Dome in Cologne was a very functional and not so attractive theater before the conversion.

Now it is certainly one of the most beautiful musical theaters and the many astonished faces I saw when we showed the house to our guests for the first time seem to prove that. And a large proportion of the materials used in the auditorium come from Gerriets Great Britain in London."
